Outdoor Education

In addition to the many SVDP Out and About field trips, outdoor education is an integral part of our academic program. The opportunity for specialized study and social-emotional growth is presented on these overnight trips. Students in grades 4, 6 and 8 participate in an outdoor education program.

The 8th grade class travels to Washington DC for a week long immersion in history, monuments, and museums. These moments provide life-long memories and enhance student understanding of the founding of the United States.

The 6th grade class participates in a five-day environmental science program at Caritas Creek in Occidental, California. Hikes in nature and community building are the focus.

Students in 4th grade attend the three-day Coloma Outdoor Discovery School near Sacramento which emphasizes the California Gold Rush experience.

Each of these excursions provides our students with a unique experience that cannot be replicated in the classroom. All students are required to attend.
